Student Work Permits

Students under the age of 18 who wish to work during the school year or summer must obtain a valid work permit through their school before beginning employment.

How to Apply for a Work Permit

1. Secure a job offer from an employer.

2. Complete the California Statement of Intent to Employ a Minor and Request for a Work Permit (Form B1-1).

3. Have the form signed by:

  • The student
  • A parent or guardian
  • The employer

4. Submit the completed form to the school office for review.

5. Once approved, the school will issue a Permit to Employ and Work, which must be provided to the employer before the student begins working.

Important Information

  • Work permits are required for most students under the age of 18, including during summer employment.
  • Students must maintain satisfactory school attendance, academic progress, anf behavior to be eligible for a work permit.
  • Work permits may be revoked if a student's academic performance or attendance becomes unsatisfactory.
  • Permits expire at the beginning of each new school year and must be renewed annually.;
